Everything is ready for the inauguration of the Europe Readr project in the Netherlands, and You are invited!
On July 1 the platform Europe Readr has been officially launched on initiative of Slovenia as part of the projects organised within the country’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Europe Readr consists of a digital platform of 27 books from 27 EU countries available for free and for everyone both in their original language and in English, until the end of December of 2021.
This Slovenian Presidency’s flagship cultural and promotional project enjoyed a lot of attention over summer months. Indeed, the virtual library offers free access to a selection of books, which can be read anywhere – while traveling, on the beach…you name it! It brings current social issues to readers, encouraging them to reflect on the world we want to live in.
While the Embassies of Slovenia are teaming up with local cultural institutes everywhere in the world to celebrate the presidency and provide the international public with incredible cultural initiatives, also here in the Netherlands big plans have been made to promote the digital platform on the territory and bring you closer to the European literary and linguistic variety. And EUNIC Netherlands has been involved into this creative project since day one. Here you can read more about Europe Readr in the Netherlands, and the ways EUNIC NL’s members have been actively engaged with its organisation.
During August we already gave you a couple of clues, introducing you to the incredible Reading Pavilion project that a group of talented students of Architecture from TU Delft have designed and are building for Europe Readr in the Netherlands. Now it’s time for everyone to finally see this beautiful installation! To celebrate the success of the digital platform and the accomplishment of those young architects, EUNIC Netherlands organised a Kick-Off event in the stunning Amsterdam – and you really cannot miss it.
INVITATION
Europe Readr Kick-Off event in the Netherlands:
We will open the evening at OBA Amsterdam (Oosterdokskade 143) at 19:00, when the pavilion will be displayed for the first time to the public, and remain available in the Central library until early October. For that occasion, an engaging Talk Show will take place in OBA Theatre, offering endless food for thoughts and refreshing international perspectives over the themes of reading and sustainability.
For the Europe Readr Kick-Off event in the Netherlands we have invited ER authors and other foreign and local professors and writers from different backgrounds to discuss The Future of Living. Both present on stage and connecting virtually via Zoom, at our Talk Show you will find:
– Ms Marieke Eyskoot, sustainability expert, speaker, presenter, writer, and consultant;
– Mr Marek Šindelka (CZ author, Europe Readr);
– Mr Drago Jančar (SI author, Europe Readr; participating online, via Zoom);
– Mr Georg Vrachliotis, Professor for Theory of Architecture and Digital Culture, TU Delft / Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment;
– Moderator: Mr Rogier Elshout.
The panellists will share their opinion and reflection on what they find most important for the future of living, the future of Europe, and the world we want to live in, presenting the audience with an opportunity to consider the European Union as a community which, for how diverse, is formed by a cohesive community with a common future.
