Poetry Images – Exhibition (Embassy of Hungary)
October 7 - December 16Free
The Embassy of Hungary invites you and your kids to the travelling exhibition ‘Poetry Images’, a collection of contemporary Hungarian illustrations of children’s poems.
A series of illustrations by 37 Hungarian artists from classic and contemporary poetry collections for children was selected by the art historian Emese Révész.
The first heyday of Hungarian children’s book illustrations was in the 1960s and 1970s, when more and more writers and graphic designers started to focus on children’s literature. Around 2000, the illustrations started receiving extra attention from renowned publishers, which resulted in an increase in quality. The outcome of this process is a selection of talented Hungarian artists of children’s literature who is now internationally recognised.
The exhibition ‘Poetry Images’ shows the colourful variety in the flourishing field of Hungarian children’s book illustrations, an enjoyable experience not only for the little ones.
This travelling exhibition will be displayed in the upcoming weeks both in Emmen and in OBA. In Emmen there will also be two works from the Hungarian author/illustrator selected to represent Hungary on the Europe Readr platform, Kinga Rofusz. There, two different workshops have been organised: on October 9 children will work with waste products to create art and learn about sustainability – one of the main themes of the Europe Readr project. The workshop of October 16, instead, revolves around the exhibition, a moment during which children learn to look at art and will have the chance to create their own work.
