Christmas Treasure – Contemporary Czech Glass Ornaments (Tsjechisch Centrum)

The production of blown glass Christmas ornaments has a long tradition in Bohemia, and during decades and decades it charmed many admirers and collectors worldwide. This Christmas, Czech Centre Rotterdam aims to show this Czech tradition to the Netherlands.

Together with CzechTourism and The Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Centre organizes the exhibition ‘Christmas Treasure’. Hosted in the Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam, the exhibition will allow visitors to see not only traditional glass Christmas ornaments, their basic shapes and production techniques, but also the latest trends.

All items on display have been produced by Czech companies. In particular, the Poniklá-made glass bead ornaments deserve a special mention as they were included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List 2020. The unique method of their creation is in fact exclusive to the Czech Republic, and a distinctive feature of the local tradition and craftmanship.
