Virtual Tour Kateřina Šedá UNES-CO (Tsjechisch Centrum)
April 13 - April 24Free
The Tsjechisch Centrum is enthusiastic to invite you to its first ever virtual tour, organised in cooperation with many other Czech Centres around Europe.
The exhibition is designed as a showroom of UNES-CO (United Nations Real Life Organization), an international fictitious company founded by the artist Kateřina Šeda for the 16th International Architecture Exhibition that took place in Venice in 2018. The company deals with the negative impact of mass tourism on the historic center of the city of Český Krumlov. Through its works it tries to reverse the phenomenon that all cities on the UNESCO World Heritage List have to contend with, in which ordinary life is slowly disappearing from the cities and only a kind of backstage remains.
Kateřina Šedá is best known to the public for her socially engaged projects in which she involves tens or hundreds of people who often have nothing to do with art. These are usually long-term projects preceded by thorough research and which take place in a completely non-artistic environment. This also applies to this UNES-CO exhibition. What the residents of Český Krumlov think of the project? What the reactions were on Facebook? And what family life looked like in the city? You can have a closer look and find answers to these and many more questions during the online exhibition, which has been richly equipped with multimedia material, photos, and videos.
Kateřina Šedá (1977) has already received numerous prizes for her work – the Jindřich Chalupecký prize (Czech Republic), the Essl Award (Austria), the Fluxus Award (Germany), the Contemporary Art Society Award (Great Britain), the TAKU Production Prize (Finland) etc. She has exhibited all over the world, including at Documenta 12 in Kassel, Manifesta 7 in Bolzan and at the Venice Biennale. She was also the first Czech artist to have a solo exhibition at the Tate Modern gallery in London.
