Performance: L’EUROPE NOIRE
1 April 2022 @ 20:00 - 21:00
€6 – €11L’Europe noire is a poetic travelogue through black Europe. Slam poet and musician Lisette Ma Neza follows Johny Pitts’ book Afropean as a travel guide and preliminary research for a new performance. She travels by train from Brussels to Lisbon and from Lisbon to Graz, back to Breda, and then back to Brussels. For example, she goes in search of the African diaspora on the European continent. Who are we? Where are we? And where do we come from? She asks questions about the concept of home, family, intergenerational history, love, life, Europe and Africa not only to herself, but also to the people with African roots she will meet on the train. acquaintances and strangers.
During the journey, Lisette writes new poems and songs and documents conversations auditory and visually. In the performance, all sides of the Afro-European story come together in a mixture of art forms: music, poetry, images and sound fragments. Lisette Ma Neza closes the evening together, she slams and sings and is accompanied by her four-piece band: Michelle Samba, Neil Akenzua, Orville Breeveld and Peter Somuah. They take us into her world, into her emotional world, into her story and ours. We will experience her journey together.
The language of the event is Dutch.
