Stop & Go – The Odyssey Chapter

In the experimental film work Stop & Go, Mafalda Rakoš takes on the role of a hitchhiker to talk to strangers in the intimate surroundings of their cars. Since 2016, she has travelled through Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, covering a total of 23,000 km.

Through extensive conversations with randomly selected people, the artist attempts to capture a picture of our zeitgeist. The conversations focus on socio-political issues: Each interlocutor becomes an expert, an advisor. How do these people navigate through our unsteady, capitalist reality? As the project is an ongoing research, the screening of the last chapter, in which the audience travels from Ithaca, Greece, to Vienna, Austria, will be followed by a conversation between the artist and the audience, moderated by Xaver Könnecker.
