Mirror – Face to Face
1 September 2022 @ 09:00 - 30 September 2022 @ 17:00
FREEThe Club for UNESCO Vicenza and the Dutch Grafein Foundation present the graphic art exhibition “Mirror – Face to Face”, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam, which will take place from 1 to 30 September at the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam, and then from 15 October to 13 November at the Kunstliefde space in Utrecht.
The exhibition is the eighth edition of the Mirror-Face to Face artistic project organised by the Club for UNESCO Vicenza and curated by Valeria Bertesina, which compares artists from different countries every year since 2016. With their works, they promote art by printing different themes, techniques and interpretative perspectives. The title refers to the concept of the project, intended as a creative comparison (mirror) between the contemporary prints of the two participating countries. The Mirror – Face to Face project is inspired by the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the 2005 Council of Europe Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society. The project aims to encourage artistic dialogue and to promote cultural diversity as a common heritage of humanity and as a precondition for peace and social justice.
For this eighth edition of the Mirror – Face to Face project, curated for the Dutch part by Maja Anastasova Chris, thirty Italian and thirty Dutch artists present their works via a comparison of different visions, themes and techniques following the inspiration that crosses time and places. After the exhibitions in the Netherlands, the works will be presented from 4 to 20 November 2022 at Villa Caldogno in Vicenza.
Furthermore, the Mirror – Face to Face exhibition in Amsterdam constitutes the inauguration of Grafiek2022, the national triennial of graphics and engraving that takes place in the Netherlands in the autumn of 2022. In the framework of the triennial, museums, galleries, studios of engraving, art centres and artists carry out projects and activities related to graphic art: exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops. These three months will be dedicated to printing as a form of art, emphasising the wide range of expressions and the great variety of graphic art, from traditional printing techniques to contemporary crossovers, to the invention of new printing methods.
