A musical gift from the Sultan to the Queen – Piano recital (Yunus Emre Enstitüsü)
8 October 2021 @ 19:30 - 20:30
FreeOn behalf of the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü EUNIC Netherlands would like to invite you to the piano recital ‘A musical gift from the Sultan to the Queen’, taking place on October 8 at Amsterdam Yunus Emre Institute.
The subject of this beautiful musical event is about a music album which was bought at an auction in 2018 in the Netherlands. Based on the gathered information, the research suggests that this velvet decorated music book is a palace work which seems has been given as a present to Queen Elisabeth of Romania by the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II.
Lost for a long time, the detection of this album is valuable both in terms of the uncertainties of the relations between the two countries and the Sultan’s musical understanding, as well as in terms of showing us a dimension of the Ottoman image management in their external and communication preferences in their diplomatic language. In the album, all of the Works with a publication date belong to the year 1876.
The musical works will be performed by pianist Mrs Kutlay Evren, who is also a lecturer at Yıldız University in İstanbul. She will perform a marvelous selection of Ottoman Western Music under the influence of Donizetti.
Due to the limited availability of seats, early registration is strongly recommended to ensure your participation.
