Simon Van Schuylenbergh and Rosie Sommers: NE MOSQUITO PAS – Outdoor presentation (Brakke Grond)
19 November 2021
€8.50 – €12.50On November 19, three artists participating in Ne Mosquito Pas are invited to present their interpretations of the concept of ‘failure’. Failure is intended, for instance, as a scene cut from a show just before the curtain goes on, an idea that never escaped a notebook, or an enduring fascination from the past. Simon Van Schuylenbergh and Rosie Sommers are Flemish theater makers and performers and the initiators of Ne Mosquito Pas – a practice and event series that invites artists to create solos from their personal interpretation of ‘failure’.
The collection of performances resulting from a five-day work period is often eclectic, but characterized by a collective effort to undo a preconfigured idea of what ‘works’ on stage and what ‘doesn’t work’. They are autonomous contributions, but it is in relation to each other that the solos show a glimpse of the potential of ‘failure’ to resist the constant quest for ‘success’ as the standard mode by which neoliberal lives are lived.
Simon was in residence at Veem House for Performance and de Brakke Grond last September and met various artists from the dance and performance field. Together with three artists from Amsterdam, Simon and Rosie will perform their ‘failed’ work in the upcoming edition of Ne Mosquito Pas on November 19.
Here you can find more information on the performers and their ties to de Brakke Grond, as well as the Workshop scheduled for the following day, on November 20.
