A State of Amplitude (Embassy of Austria)
9 September 2021 - 26 September 2021
FreeQuartair introduces ‘A State of Amplitude‘, an exhibition of sonic sculptures, instruments and sound transmitting vessels, presented in the Hague as part of the Autumn program of the Rewire Festival. This assemblage of actively sounding objects will remain open for compositional coincidences, new spatial conditions, and modes of relation. Together, these dynamic pieces will build a shifting soundscape forged by the acoustic setting and the state of the observer.
The exhibition looks at the potential of using sound as material to create instruments or sculptures. In these sonic architectures, where sound functions as a method of continuous construction and destruction, an endlessly unfolding dimension emerges of composed reality. By entering this space of vibrations, an identification occurs between listener and elemental matter, between inside and outside, between hallucination and realism.
Quartair is an artist-run initiative operating as a platform for presentation, exchange and artistic debate. It initiates and supports exhibitions, art projects and exchanges with other artists or artist-run-spaces at home and abroad. Based in the former bread factory, Haagsche Broodfabriek, today the building is turned into a monument, hosting eleven artists active in seven ateliers, and a project space, which functions as a public stage for the art community at large. Quartair is one of the longest running artist-run-spaces in The Hague.
‘A State of Amplitude’ opens on September 9, in the context of Rewire Festival, and runs until September 26. Among the participating artists you will be able to find performers from the whole world, such as Natalia Domínguez Rangel (NL/AU/CO), Hans van Koolwijk (NL), Louis Braddock Clarke (UK/NL), Wen Chin Fu (TW/NL), Mike Rijnierse & Rob Bothof (NL), Andreas Trobollowitsch (AU) and Andre Bartetzki (DE). Visit the website of the exhibition to know more about the openings during week days and weekends, and to find out the timeline of each performer.
