‘Polygnota’: 5th concert of the series ‘Yesterday Muse, Today Composer’ (Instituto Cervantes)

20 May 2021 @ 17:00 - 19:00

Free

The Instituto Cervantes Utrecht warmly invites you to the fifth and last event of the series of concerts ‘Polygnota: Yesterday Muse, Today Composer‘.

This last episode is dedicated to Maria Rosa Pons Tena, a Spanish female composer who studied composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. Pons Tena is a multidisciplinary artist involved in the performance and distribution of the cello in fiddle or modern string music, and in musical production. She unites different musical influences such as folk, jazz, modern music, and contemporary classical music.

The music of Pons Tena will be performed by the Goyescas Viola Quartet, founded in August 2020 at the Conservatory in Utrecht by the young Spanish musicians Susana Tena, Raquel Roldán, Beatriz Torres, and Eduardo Lucena. They decided to collaborate and specialize in this contemporary formation of four violas, in order to introduce the audience to the sound world of this instrument which, given its importance to the orchestra, as a solo instrument and in chamber music, hardly gets adequate attention. Pons Tena was inspired by various music genres to give each work a different sound and atmosphere, including folk, copla, and impresionism. During this online concert, a personal and distinctive sound will be performed, as well as a suite of popular songs from the native region of each of the members of the quartet.

The live streaming will be available on the YouTube channel of the Instituto Cervantes on May 20 @17:00 – where the link will remain disposable also afterwards.
