Exhibition: Lucie Havel & Dico Kruijsse/ Carolien Lange

Passages en passant is a series of exhibitions in the corridor of the Goethe-Institut Rotterdam, in which the works of two artists engage in dialogue with each other. This format is intended as a space for exchange with and through the works, as a conversation starter and as a meeting place for interested parties.

Lucie Havel focuses on the relationship between nature and culture in Western society. Through (scientific) research, Havel tries to find an alternative to this dualistic vision. To this end, she searches for transformational processes in which the identity of her material and subject are preserved. During the project, How I fell in love with the Enemy, Havel researched the infamous Japanese knotweed. For Passages en passant she made an installation that follows from this series.

Dico Kruijsse and Carolin Lange are collaborating on the project, Under The Same Sun, that explores the relationship between sunlight, the perception of time and architectural spaces. They consider a building as a ‘camera’ in which they record lighting situations on location and within newly created working models of architecture. With the monochrome-blue photographic process and the cyanotype, they create abstract photograms of light and shadow inside buildings and models.
