A Meeting with Andrea Abreu
March 14 @ 19:00 - 20:30Free
Panza de burro, the debut novel by Canarian journalist Andrea Abreu, has just been published in Dutch by Van Oorschot. Abreu will visit the Netherlands for this occasion and will explain the details of the gestation of this work, originally published in 2020 in Spain, in the middle of the pandemic, and which has been a real boom in sales and good reviews to date. A publishing phenomenon that revealed the power of quality literature to make its way in adverse circumstances and that knows no borders, with translations into fifteen languages.
The protagonists of ‘Panza de burro’, Isora and her best friend, are two teenagers who live their awakening to adulthood in the foothills of Mount Teide, on the island of Tenerife, in the midst of humble surroundings that contrast with the luxurious hotels in the south and the rural houses in the mountains, which their mothers clean for a living. All spun with a peculiar language, native, sincere and without mincing words, because orality, slang and slang become the written word.
