Flightfall (Vluchtval)

The Czech Centre Rotterdam will be hosting a birthday celebration for Jana Beranová, the renowned
Czech-born Rotterdam poet, who will turn 91 on May 2. As part of the celebration, a screening of the
film Flightfall/Vluchtval will take place, which premiered at the 2023 IFFR. The documentary, directed
by Laura Stek, connects the stories of two refugees from different continents and times: Jana
Beranová, who came to Rotterdam as a teenager, and Abdallah Marega, a 27-year-old freerunner
who has lived in both Mali and Paris. Although both tales are about a free fall and the subsequent
recovery, Beranová finds resilience in words while Marega uses movement.
