The Philosophy of Horror – Online screening (Embassy of Hungary)
4 June 2021 @ 12:00 - 7 June 2021 @ 12:00
€5.00 – €8.50The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) offers a high quality line-up of carefully selected fiction and documentary feature films, short films and media art. The festival’s focus is on recent work by talented new filmmakers. However, there is also room for retrospectives and themed programmes. IFFR actively supports new and adventurous filmmaking talent through its co-production market CineMart, its Hubert Bals Fund, Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities.
The Embassy of Hungary is happy to invite you to the online screening of the Hungarian movie ‘The Philosophy of Horror’ by the experimental filmmakers Péter Lichter and Bori Máté. In 1990, Noël Carroll published The Philosophy of Horror Or, Paradoxes of the Heart, an investigation into the nature of cinema and fear – our desire to face the worst nightmares on the big screen. In 2020 Péter Lichter and Bori Máté adapted the book into several chapters, or movements, each opening with a Carroll quote on one specific way horror works, followed by brutally treated appropriated footage from classics of the genre that highlight this observation.
The film will be available online from June 4 @12:00 to June 4 @12:00. You can check the different ticket prices and look for more information about this and the other films of the Festival on the website of IFFR.
