Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (Embassy of Spain)
June 24 - June 26Free
Here’s an unmissable event for all those passionate about dance: the third edition of the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition will take place from June 24 to 26 June 2021.
This contest is extremely relevant in the world of dance since it is the largest choreography competition for couples on a global level, thus it represents an event that truly cannot be missed by dance lovers. The winners of the competition will receive a prize of 100,000 Euros to create a complete co-production with the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. Of the more than 417 applications submitted from 62 countries, the jury has selected 16 emerging choreographers, who will perform on stage and whose performances will be livestreamed.
The Embassy of Spain supports the participation of the young Spanish choreographer Ester Guntín, one of these 16 finalists. She will present her work Ararat in Theater Rotterdam, performed by the dancers Elisabeth Ollè and Hèctor Puigdomènech – both originally from Spain.
Elisabeth Ollè has participated in projects such as Dhub fab lab or Encontats, una Ventafocs molt particular, by Mar Fayos. Hèctor Puigdomènech, on the other hand, is a dancer with an international career, whose performances have reached up to China with the Brodas Bros Company. Ester Guntín has worked with the well-known choreographer Marcos Morau (La Veronal). She has also founded her own company Vaikonur, creating other shows besides Ararat, such as Alepo or Nachleben.
The first ever online edition of RIDCC will take place on June 24, 25 and 26 in Theater Rotterdam where performers, jury members, and RIDCC partners will meet following a strict Corona-proof protocol. The audience will experience the wonderful selection of duets digitally in their own living room. Visit the website of the RIDCC to know more about the competition and its latest updates.
