Fables de la Fontaine (Alliance Française of Rotterdam)

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary from the birth of Jean de La Fontaine, the Alliance Française of Rotterdam in partnership with the Alliance Française of la Haye offers a retrospective of the French fabulist in pictures. Drawings, Japanese prints, watercolours, engravings, etc. the animal comedy comes to life through numerous representations, from classical to contemporary, in the Gallery of the Alliance.

This exhibition will feature paintings by Carlijn Van Vlijmen. Always looking for francophiles and especially Dutch francophiles, we had a real crush on the artist Carljin Van Vlijmen! This Dutch artist has beautifully illustrated some of La Fontaine’s most famous fables. In our Gallery, we offer a presentation of her illustrations alongside the Dutch translation of the fables by Rob Scholten for a rare dive into the mind of the poet.
