Canary Island Roots: The Timple and Guitar

22 March 2023 @ 19:00 - 24 March 2023 @ 19:00

Free

The two performers, Pérez, on the timple, and Niz, on the guitar, will interpret a wide
variety of music and genres, ranging from the purest roots of Canarian folklore to musical
passages of Venezuelan, Argentinian and Cuban rhythms, as well as classic themes adapted to
this small format. The timple, a traditional instrument from the Canary Islands, accompanied
by the guitar, makes the sound unique in the world, where a journey is made from the roots of
the Canary Islands to interpretations of Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Buenavista Social Club or
Dire Straits.

The duo, formed 10 years ago, has performed numerous concerts around the island. Adrián
Niz began at a very early age, forming part of different folk groups of Lanzarote and expanding
his knowledge of guitar at the Conservatory of the island. His guitar has accompanied different
timplists in different cities of the world: Paris, Berlin, Bilbao, Madrid, Warsaw. José Vicente
Pérez also started in the folklore workshop of his school and later perfected his skills with the
timple at the Conservatory, as well as working with the maestros David León, Pedro Izquierdo
and Domingo Rodríguez “El Colorao”.
