Artist conversation: Maxime Brigou and Peter Buggenhout (De Brakke Grond)

20 June 2021 @ 13:20 - 15:00

€5 – €7

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Institute, de Brakke Grond, in collaboration with Amsterdam Art Week, asked two artists from different generations to discuss the past, the present and the future. An artist conversation during a Sunday afternoon of mid-June will be the occasion for reflecting together on the changing art field, and over important moments in an artist’s career.

Peter Buggenhout exhibited in 2001 together with Berlinde De Bruyckere (Ghent, 1973) at the Brakke Grond in the duo exhibition Gebroed. Now, 20 years later, De Brakke Grond is celebrating its 40th anniversary and asked the artists to nominate an emerging talent from the Flemish field. This resulted in the exhibition I alone, have more memories, on display until July 18. In this way the Flemish Institute aims to connect the rich history of the Brakke Grond to a new generation of artists, building the future together with them.

Phillippe Van Cauteren, the artistic director of SMAK, will give an introduction to the conversation, while Lieneke Hulshof, chief editor Mister Motley, will be the moderator. Visit De Brakke Grond’s website to read the biographies of the two artists, know more about the exhibition of Maxime Brigou, and find the details of the day program for June 20.
